FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP
A sore back can jeopardize the day.
Being the FOUNDATION of movement, back pain immobilizes thoughts & actions.
Walking, driving, sitting and even listening creates fatigue with the constant reminder of the pain.
My solution is YOGA.
It’s the go-to when I’m floundering – my back & my brain.
My Monday Morning 90-minute YOGA commitment is an investment to perform optimally.
It anchors my core health, strength, focus and resilience.
Likewise, concentrating on the FOUNDATION FACTORS of my LEADERSHIP, at the beginning of my week are just as critical for optimal performance
Focusing on my:
· Mindset
· Confidence
· Resilience
· Purpose
· Values
· Motives &
· Drive … enables me to be clear, decisive and connected; ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Planning the week out is critical however examining my FOUNDATION FACTORS will strengthen my fortitude, ready to surpass my goals.
Our body is phenomenal so let’s ensure it receives the respect it deserves.
During my work, I introduce simple YOGA exercises into my workshops.
It’s fun and enables the brain & body to refocus on the FOUNDATION FACTORS of my LEADERSHIP.
This is my TEAM TREE EXERCISE which you can use in the workplace.
TEAM TREE EXERCISE
When the energy is low or you’re introducing new information to the team, try some YOGA!
Ask your team to:
1. Stand up, face forward & hands at their side
2. Focus their eyes on an item to look at (on the wall or outside within view),
3. Close their eyes and concentrate on their breathing
4. Think of one of these factors:
a. Mindset – how am I thinking– am I fixed or flexible on this matter
b. Confidence – am I willing to back my thoughts on this matter
c. Resilience – I feel strong and I can cope with what is happening around me
d. Purpose – what brings me here today, remind myself
e. Values - what’s most important to me and how does it help me in what I’m thinking about
f. Motives – why am I doing what I’m doing – how does it make me feel
g. Drive – what got me out of bed today and how did I decide to get here
5. Open their eyes
6. Look & concentrate on the one item they chose to look at
7. Lift one leg off the ground and hold it out in front of you or rest it on the other leg (as per image) – against the knee or at the top of the opposite leg
8. Lift your arms and join your hands above your head (as per image)
9. Hold for one minute … or work towards this time.
10. If you falter, refocus on looking at the one item and try again
It’s the mindset which controls your stance.
Can you do it? Can you focus on one aspect of your leadership for one minute!
