You Do You
Don’t Hide Yourself Away
I’m late to the Queer Eye game.
Tan France, known for his celebrity status on Netflix’s Queer Eye needs our attention.
He’s a successful brown gay businessman, born & raised as a South East Asian Muslim in the north of England by his Pakistani parents; married to his Mormon Cowboy husband living in Utah.
Being a workaholic, Tan’s entrepreneurial spirit raced through many businesses enabling him to consider retirement at an early age to settle down and have kids.
Then Netflix came knocking on his door and he became a member of the FAB5.
However, suffering from Impostor Syndrome, hiding & pretending who he was, he’s been able to use his status to reinforce through this fun memoir lessons on life & business:
LIFE PLAN – know the relationships you’re entering and where they’re heading
MENTAL HEALTH – know who you can call when it’s all too much; there is a solution beyond the haze
GROOMING – take care of your skin, hair and choose what you wear well to trick the eye
MANNERS – be curious, be honest, be early and say please & thank you
SELF ACCEPTANCE – be yourself and don’t accept anything less, stay on the journey
Being You & Doing You Well makes a remarkable statement for all people – especially our young people - to understand we all have a unique language which isn’t always crisp & clear for others to understand.
And to know that culture is created by us.
When people come together, even though they’re culturally diverse, they create a new culture together.
I have enormous respect for Tan France and his authentic approach to life.
It’s worth a read.
