WHEN BEING STUBBORN IS A COMPLIMENT
Yes, read that again!
Stubborn Saturday is all about focusing on that task or project to see it through to the end.
People may compliment you with, “You’re like a dog with a bone … you don’t give up!”
On the flip side (the right side) is PERSERVERING and it’s today’s STRENGTH.
When it’s overdone it’s likely to be perceived as STUBBORN. (However, don’t worry about it.)
It’s a STRENGTH that is easily dialed up too loudly because you’re so close to seeing the results.
What about you – do you receive ‘feedback’ that you PERSEVERE or that you’re STUBBORN?
When you PERSEVERE you’re like a fast train on a track.
Your mind is set, and others need to get out of the way until you have worked it out.
It’s the STRENGTH packed with stamina and endurance enabling progress.
Staying on track is your expertise while others fall off the track at any sign of adversity.
You relish overcoming insurmountable odds.
This is one of my favorite STRENGTHS – and the one I encourage clients to use or borrow more frequently in their pursuit of achieving specific goals.
However, I have had to learn (and still struggle with it) to admit that I’m wrong or something isn’t going to work.
I need to keep it in check by welcoming alternatives and suggesting experiments.
Whilst being stubborn is a compliment (in my mind) I would never want your leadership to be referenced with the cliché - ‘it’s my way or the highway’.
There are many reasons to be PERSEVERING; for me, it’s to overcome obstacles and to ensure the goal is always in sight. (I’m performance-focused.}
Three other reasons to consider:
· To ensure obstacles don’t get in the way of helping someone
· To have enough time for actions to have the intended effect
· To help a group through a tough situation
Leaders who understand why members of their team are purposely PERSERVERING will enable their team to experience the STRENGTH of their LEADERSHIP.
