The Best Advice I've Heard This Week

The best advice I’ve heard this week …

What have you heard this week that you knew would help you do what you do?

I’m always banging on about the need to be crisp and clear, to say fewer words to mean more.

And, whilst listening to Dr Kirstin Ferguson share her leadership experience with me (via Audible!), these words stopped me from peeling the carrots …

WORD-TO-WISDOM RATIO

The number of words you need to make your point.

Examples from this week where the ‘words’ devoured the ‘wisdom’ …

  • Too much waffling – way too many words.

  • Meetings full of talking – not enough listening to find the right words to share wisdom.

  • Long and overloaded questions – people turn off before they offer to respond.

To implement this advice, you’ll need to work at refining what you mean in what you say; and the quality of words (as opposed to the quantity of words) to share your response, thoughts, and ideas.
