BEING NICE WON’T GET YOU ANYWHERE
When you’re being nice, you’re letting your team down.
They expect many things from you, but not being NICE.
Most likely they want you to:
🌐Set clear boundaries, enabling them to do what they’re good at
🌐Give guidance only when they seek it out from you
🌐Give them trust, and let them excel or learn from their experience.
Being NICE won’t get you anywhere, however it will get you a piece of chocolate cake. I recall my mother saying, the only time you use the word NICE, is to describe a chocolate cake!
Being a good leader is about saying ‘NO’.
Having a reputation of being assertive, fair and direct is better than being described as wishy washy.
Journalist and author, Grace Jennings -Edquist said ‘’No changed her life in the pandemic’’. In her book, The Yes Woman, she raises the debilitating habit of the desire to please.
Being NICE gives your power away. Being NICE is avoiding accountability and responsibility.
Being a NO person opposed to a NICE person will enable you to get done what you’re meant to do … LEAD.
And exercise I use with clients is to practise writing, saying and expressing a response of ‘’NO’’.
The more you respond with “NO”, the more permission you’re giving yourself and others to take the lead to influence.
Keeping the peace (like offering a piece of chocolate cake) isn’t leading.
Are you a NICE or a NO person?
