MONO-TASKING OR MULTI-TASKING
Before I managed to read the second chapter I rose to the challenge.
Our weekend away would be the perfect opportunity.
I left my phone unattended in my handbag for ‘most’ of the trip.
Whilst sitting around soaking up the smell of a Dairy Farm, my many friends had their noses in their phones. They were trapped.
However, 24 hours later – the only phone in use belonged to my son who was hosting a music game for 17 people.
For five hours no one else looked at their phone (unless they were cheating using Shazam!)
STOLEN FOCUS has me FOCUSED.
WHY YOU CAN’T PAY ATTENTION has me intrigued.
We have choices to be in the flow, to find our creativity.
Mono-tasking in the flow or feeling fragmented and multi-tasking.
Read that again.
Author, Johann Hari interviewed Author and Psychologist, the late Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi to understand how he FOCUSED, and his best example was when he was climbing hills in Europe.
I can’t imagine he was taking selfies every step of the journey.
Hari has me hooked as he shares his research and many interviews to uncover every element of regaining our FOCUS.
I recently provided feedback about constant phone message checking with a client. It wasn’t until I asked him how his team experienced his constant break in his focus did he realize (self-leadership) the importance of giving his team, 100 focused attention.
We are all suffering an attention deficit and I look forward to sharing strategies from this insightful book, over the next few days.
Here’s today’s challenge.
Place your phone out of sight, (not just on mute) to concentrate on ONE task for 60 minutes.
Reclaim your time without being interrupted.
Please share your experience.
