BEING AGILE WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP
I’ve skirted around the world of AGILE.
Whilst it’s been topical for 20 years, I’ve never gone deep enough.
In 2021, I launched my book, Talk Like A Leader, and the first word I explored was Agile.
The Agile Leader, by Dr Simon Hayward and Agile-ish by Lynne Cazaly encouraged my further exploration of the connection of Agile to Leadership and now ….
I went even deeper and found and listened to the godfather of Agile, Jeff Sutherland - 2014 book, SCRUM, The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time.
Being immersed in learning more about Agile enabled me to provide information to help three separate client teams, all grappling with prolonged projects; and who are all stuck.
In each situation, there’s a lack of awareness that they are stuck and hungry for more effective leadership.
IT’S TIME TO BE AGILE WITH THEIR LEADERSHIP.
This is where we’ve started:
STAND UP - all were intrigued by the need for short daily morning STAND UP MEETINGS to review, share and focus on the day ahead, opposed to a fortnightly team meeting.
SPRINT - they are now grappling with producing work (deliverables) in a shorter period by setting time frames to hold themselves more accountable.
SPEED - with the focus on velocity, the duration of completing a task, should continue to decrease as they take the lead to collaborate more.
These three ways of working don’t cost money and contribute to building a culture of a team that trust each other due to their continued connection over a shared goal.
What Agile approach have you experimented with while leading your team?
