AVOIDANCE
I’m working with an Osteopath.
Or should I say he has me fixing a tendon and now I’m strengthening the muscles that I didn’t know existed.
Like most people, I’ve relied on the same muscles to do the heavy lifting and avoided using the right muscles for unique roles.
In our relationships, we do the same.
We avoid using strengths which could achieve a more effective outcome.
It’s uncomfortable using strengths in the workplace that we keep for family and friends.
It feels awkward and fearful when we let the ego and guard down.
However, if you consider the reason for using these new strengths, you’ll find that your motives will be the driver. Everything we do is connected to our drive, values, purpose, motive and intent.
My least used strength is being modest as if I played down what I can do I probably wouldn’t receive the referrals that keep my business running.
Yet, if I was in a team leader role, then playing down my role and putting the focus on others would provide an opportunity for them to lead.
Are there strengths being avoided in your workplace?
(There are 28 that we use in our relationships.)
What are you avoiding?
