BALLS BRICKS & DICE
I emptied my office cupboard.
It’s a typical lockdown exercise.
And it was like visiting a Lolly Shop.
I rediscovered all my training goodies hiding in boxes and bags.
I haven’t used these items for years and it reminded me of how useful they were to engage. They distracted people from their thinking and brought them into the present. There was always a purpose, however, that became evident when we played.
Here’s how I used my balls, bricks and dice:
Juggling Balls – we’re all juggling more than ever, so bring this metaphor to your meetings. Take breaks and learn to juggle together – with balls. Begin with two, add in the third and try a fourth. It takes quite a while!
Bricks – pilfer your kid’s collection of Lego and build a structure. Then, the fun begins in explaining your structure to your team or colleagues without showing it to them. Their goal is to recreate the structure from your instructions. This will test everyone’s communication skills.
Dice – using a list of questions, the number you land on is the number of questions you are asked. These questions could be about yourself, your project or any subject you and your team select.
So, whilst today’s online meetings could be boring, tiring and repetitive, there is an opportunity to venture into your cupboard at home (or in the office) and discover an item to engage your team and colleagues.
What’s the first item that comes to mind?
