WHY PEOPLE AVOID YOU
I once had to tell my manager that he had bad breath.
It was a tough conversation.
However, that’s not why people avoid you.
I asked a group of leaders why they avoided certain people in their organisation.
Here’s a sample of an extensive list:
🔷Talked only about themself
🔷Talked themself up
🔷Expecting trust to be earnt
🔷Telling (demanding) people what to do
🔷Taking credit for the team’s work
🔷Raising their voice and being overly cranky
🔷Focused first on what was wrong
🔷Reprimanded people in front of the team
It became a fun exercise however it was concerning how repetitive the same ‘bad behaviour’ examples were being experienced.
If you’re concerned about being ‘guilty’, then know that you can change and work on your leadership behaviour.
Why people are attracted to you includes …
✅You think of others first
✅You give trust
✅You communicate to understand
✅You regularly recognise, reward and acknowledge others
✅You use peoples’ names.
Being vulnerable and asking your team if they avoid you, opens the conversation to adapting your approach for better relationships.
This Friday Let’s Talk about behaviour to eliminate.
