Not So Easy Leadership Behaviours

Not-so-easy Leadership behaviours

This week’s five leadership behaviours are not-so-easy Leadership Behaviours!

During my many conversations and sessions this week, there was a rumble of two emerging concerning themes:

Having to deal with difficult people, and

Being forced into challenging and uncomfortable situations.

For many, this is a daily occurrence.

These five behaviours, whilst not very easy, will support you lead more effectively:

PERSONALITY PATTERNS – underpinning all our dealing with people, they all come with a particular personality, each unique and often complex (more complex than the work you’re doing). Work on understanding people and their personalities first. Look for patterns.

UNDERSTAND CONFLICT – often people are operating in a constant state of conflict, their work and workplace threaten their self-worth.  Work on understanding what’s important for them and what’s getting in their way and causing friction.

SAYING NO – when there is too much work and too little empathy, practise saying No. Not just the word No, but the why of the No.

GO WITH YOUR GUT – whilst it’s difficult to convince some, there is this internal radar that gives sound advice that is often dismissed. Work on listening and backing your internal guiding judgement.

FIRST FOCUS – focus on you first to enable you to be available to lead others as your best possible self.

What leadership lesson did you learn or share this week?

Or, what challenged you to make you feel uncomfortable about your role as a people or business leader?
