A rare team member - Relationship Intelligence

  • Strategic

  • Planner

  • Implementer

  • Ambitious

  • Objective

Who on your team ticks all the boxes?

They’re the one who likes nothing better than a well-executed strategy & plan.

An ambitious strategy designed with rational objectives.

Almost elegant because they assess the risk & the opportunity.

These people are rare as hen’s teeth!

I’ve worked with people across most industries & sectors and I’m always on the lookout for this type of person … as they rarely appear in a team

I contain my excitement when I do meet one as I want to understand them & how they see the world.

That’s what leadership is about.

Knowing the people in your team.

Their motives, interests & what drives them to conflict.

This relationship-building assists when adversity strikes, aka COVID19; your knowledge of their resilience & how they’ll perform & THE SUPPORT THEY’LL NEED.

Back to our rare person.

Don’t rock the boat by:

  • Not giving them all the facts

  • Being rash or impulsive

  • Ignoring their logic

  • Accepting everything without challenging anything

Appease them by:

  • Providing a logical plan

  • Allocating time to develop the plan

  • Limiting the emotion when solving problems

If the goal is to be more effective in the team, discuss:

  • Taking time to check in with people on a personal level

  • Being tolerant of people who don’t see the big picture

  • Accepting & exploring suggestions of others

To bring out their best:

  • Allow them to craft and implement a strategy

  • Enable them to fully survey the risks & potential rewards in a situation

  • Have facts readily available to support a winning strategy

And for a Friday acknowledgment … make sure you catch them when they condense large volumes of information into actionable plans. Rewards need to be clearly structured & administered.

“You saw the opportunity in a complex situation and turning it to our advantage while everyone else saw the risks.”
