Support Crew

I often hear myself quoting the work of others and Brene Brown and Michael Bungay Stanier were my best support crew members last week.

In one session, we listened to Brene’s ‘Dare to Lead’ to reinforce a specific technique.

When I reviewed my action items/notes from last week’s sessions, trends appeared. Rearing their heads are 3 Fs that I’m sure you’d wave and say ‘Me too’ if you’re finding that your career and working relationships are stalling.

Whilst I have my own tools, techniques, and tips from experience, I keep things easy and current and call on my support crew who have done the research and have results from experiments. Here’s how they helped me:

😨Fearless bravery and courage to have ‘that’ conversation – to proactively state the urgency of a better working relationship to enable ideas and issues addressed in time - just saying these words, gets it on the table

😎Framing these conversations for both of you to create the solution – I love MBS’s latest book, How to get along with almost anyone, and his worksheets to do the work. Start off by saying how you’d like the conversation to unfold and inviting them to follow.

❓Feedback framework for ‘‘in the moment” positive and constructive (aka negative) feedback – both Brene and Michael have wonderful questions (to keep up your sleeve) to immediately ask to open up the conversations (rather than letting the behaviour linger or fester). I’m loving '“What are you wrestling with at the moment … here’s mine … (insert your feedback).

Who’s on your support crew to make work easier?

p.s. If you’d like to receive a complimentary PDF copy of my book, Talk Like A Leader, I’d be happy to be on your support crew. Send me a direct message.
