BEING INDECISIVE
“Just make a decision!”
When the murmur becomes a rumble it’s time to look for the root cause of indecisiveness.
One probable cause is today’s STRENGTH - OPTION-ORIENTATED.
Question: Is it important that you have the opportunity to seek out and suggest different ways of doing things in your daily activities as a leader?
If you’re nodding your head, then this is a key STRENGTH.
It’s all about perspective. If you can help your team broaden their thinking, it’s a compliment.
It’s likely you’re not keen on being boxed in. You’ll find your sweet spot in coming up with alternatives that others haven’t considered.
People will hear you saying “On the other hand….” why limit yourself to one way when you can have multiple paths to take?
Of course, seeing so many options can come at a price. Others can view you as indecisive - especially when expediency is an issue. It’s like saying “No” to each option raised.
Like any strength, you’ve got to make sure that your STRENGTH doesn’t cause conflict in your team.
If you’re team looks to you to make a decision – try setting a curfew or a limit on the number of options. I like to suggest that you delegate the decision making to a team member – a great leadership lift.
If you’re more PRINCIPLED OR PERSEVERING, then OPTION-ORIENTATED is a STRENGTH to borrow and experiment with to engage more with your team and stakeholders.
Over the next seven days of February, I’ll share the final STRENGTHS measured in the SDI 2.0 Assessment of Relationship Intelligence (RQ). Learn new ways of communicating to make your leadership easy.
