Leadership Tools - Self, Social & Strategic

One of the tools I’m sharing is from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by the late Dr Stephen R Covey

I’m sharing my secret sauce - some of the tools and models which I use with my clients.

Here are four tools that I’ve shared over the Christmas break and now kicking off into 2021.

Each of these tools will help you reflect on yourself. To be self-aware is the foundation of being an effective leader.

Take time and invest in yourself and practice the use of these tools (and there are more to come) as part of your self-development strategy.

Work on your self and your social & strategic self will offer more value.

Team A & B Players

  • A tool to help you identify the members of your team. A-Team Players & B-Team Players Both groups are easily identified by their behaviour. B-players blame & shame. A-players are accountable & responsible.

Stretch Zone

  • A tool to increase your self-awareness and enhance your team's awareness of the energy you all bring to your roles. By making this language common, you give permission to speak to the energy zone people are in.

Balcony Observation

  • We're not always conscious of what we do & say. By practising 'observation', you're in a position to be more aware of the impact of your actions.

Circle of Influence

  • The Circle of Influence is a tool that reminds you to focus on yourself - to be more aware of your own effectiveness ... rather than being concerned by other people's actions & feelings.

Johari Window

  • Whilst this tool, the Johari Window, has been of use since mid last century, it's still a useful tool to become more self-aware. The 'window' consists of four panes, with the intent to increase the size of the top left-hand corner pane. This pane is in full view of everyone - including yourself.

Which tool are you likely to use and for what purpose?
