LET'S TALK - Characters In Your Story

CHARACTERS IN YOUR STORY

In most books, movies and series, the prologue or early scenes introduce the main characters, sets the context and the style of language.

Being an avid reader and addicted to Netflix I’ve found myself taking this ‘character introduction technique’ into my work, to help clients quickly adapt their relationship and communication skills.

Rather than being in a scene from the movie Groundhog Day, I gamify the association of characters to people in the room with the purpose to quickly connect character to a tested technique of effective leadership.

Interestingly, these same four characters have been appearing in peoples’ businesses over the past 18 months:

AMBASSADOR – diligently keeping the climate at the right temperature (aka keeping the peace)

ATHEIST – noisily ambivalent about the purpose, direction, and vision

ASSASSIN – quietly sabotaging your efforts to build the culture

ADVOCATE – actively and positively campaigning on your behalf

Can you spot any of these characters in your business/workplace/department/screen?

For each character there is a communication strategy and like working with a manuscript, you can change the storyline, its characters, and the ending.

KEY LESSON: If there are characters whom you seek to grow or change in your workplace, then rewrite the story. Take the lead and purposely inspire and influence with your adaptive approach.

HOW: Join me to co-create a new script, to focus on your language and potentially create more Ambassadors and Advocates as the central characters in your business.

As a consequence, you can plot how to write the Atheists and Assassins out of your story.
