STRENGTHS & FEELINGS - Feel more Self-Confident

WEDNESDAY’S FEELINGS

In the workplace, how do you FEEL when trying something completely new?

In particular, experimenting with your behaviour with a team member, colleague, or your boss?

Every movement, behaviour and action you take, triggers a FEELING.

And, if the action is new, the feelings take precedence.

On the contrary, how do you FEEL when you accomplish something difficult that you just knew you could do?

To help a client articulate how she FELT about an alternate approach in building her Leadership Practice, I used one of my favourite tools, The Emotional Culture Deck by the smart folk at Riders & Elephants.

We’re working on her STRENGTH of being SELF-CONFIDENT which she requires for a tricky sticky situation.

SELF-CONFIDENT is believing in your own powers and strengths including those STRENGTHS that have been lurking and underutilised.

When you have self-assurance in your own skills, STRENGTHS and values, it’s more obvious to others. A level of respect enters your relationship.

A strategy to help experiment with being SELF-CONFIDENT (and any behaviour) is to find the emotions attached to the behaviour. Both negative and positive.

My deck of cards enables this activity.

Watch this quick 2 ½ minute video, as I explain the deck of cards and conversation.

If you are preparing for the tricky sticky conversation, ask:

How do I want to FEEL during the conversation?

Examples include courageous, compassion, connected and energised

And importantly,

How do you not want to FEEL?

Examples include FEELING anxious, incapable and hesitant.

How SELF-CONFIDENT do you FEEL about your conversations today?
