POSITIVE INTELLIGENCE
The Easter break enabled me to exercise my PQ.
PQ stands for Positive Intelligence Quotient.
It’s a recipe of positive psychology, emotional intelligence (EQ), neuroscience (CiQ) and for me, it about the science of happiness which I’m currently studying.
In the past few days, my PQ was more evident; I could sense when my saboteur was outranking my sage.
Whilst spending time with family and friends, sage was in charge – tapping into my wisdom to allow mind easing conversations.
However, on the golf course, my mind was sabotaged landing me in the bunker (too often).
Shirzad Chamine, Chairman of CTI, (coach training organisation) penned this book (2012) based on his experience of helping people improve a higher PQ score which in essence is increasing the level of their performance and fulfillment.
This book is a page turner, providing explanations, exercises, experiments and case studies to bring to life this intelligence (a new one for me).
We’ve all found ourselves in a meeting invisible vortex, being dragged down by the negativity of people and their energy sucking behaviour.
Behold, there are easy fun practices to get back into your PQ zone which ensures you are calm, relaxed, erased of mind chatter and laser focused to anticipate what will happen next (in that meeting).
Of the 10 contributors to our saboteur’s success, the most frequently used is the Judge.
To weaken your judge saboteur begin by observing, labelling and isolating the unwelcomed behaviour. Literally ‘outing it’ and confidently citing that it’s external to you as a person.
Strengthening your sage using five powers: empathy, exploration, innovation, navigation and decisive action. For example, practise empathy in challenging situations by feeling and showing compassion, appreciation and forgiveness to power over the judge in your mind.
Focusing on strengthening your sage is the key lesson in this practical leadership handbook. It promotes the need to continually grow. Consider this mind experiment:
If you were on the beach competing in a sandcastle building activity, and knew that there would be a wave wash every 30 minutes, what would you spend your time on? Building castles quickly or building a wall?
Leaders – this will support you coach your team to slay their saboteurs and strengthen their sage.
