BE A CONNECTED CRISIS LEADER
When challenged it’s usual to revert to what is known, safe & status quo.
Yet, if we don’t know, we Google it, or we ask others.
In a Crisis we can forget what we know.
As our internal protection system pumps us with Cortisol and we shut down our ability to influence or trust.
The CONNECTED CRISIS LEADER whilst filled with trepidation knows to partner up, engage with others and give trust. They do this while performing these three activities:
SHARING + ASKING + INVOLVING
When we SHARE, we alleviate the uncertainty and provide our expertise, advice & experience
When we ASK, we help people ‘not forget’, to dig deep & remind themselves of what they know
When we INVOLVE, we give accountability, importance & responsibility to work together.
Share Ask & involve are the three activities which you’ll be appreciated for, post crisis.
Being a CONNECTED CRISIS LEADER involves performing the three roles of: Mentor, Coach & Facilitator.
During a business workshop I hosted yesterday, an Accountant asked how regularly he should Ask (coach) – he had several direct reports. He had arrangements in place to complete check-ins once a week.
In times of a crisis, I would err on the side of over communicating.
Daily if possible – be genuine, gather data to continue to the next check in.
Invest your time, contribute more, achieve a better return for all involved.
What will you do more of today? Share, Ask or Involve?
