Experimenting with Strengths - Risk-Taking

Experimenting with STRENGTHS - SOCIABLE & RISK-TAKING

Being SOCIABLE was critical for the team.

Their high engagement, regular conversations, and fun activities enabled them to comfortably ask for help and make work happen.

Yet, when we discussed what the team needed to achieve in 2022, their selection of STRENGTHS to guide them to this achievement didn’t include being SOCIABLE.

How would they cope with being less SOCIABLE?

As an experiment they set new boundaries, holding each other accountable and creating a pathway to apply different STRENGTHS.

Their first STRENGTH choice was RISK-TAKING and it provided its challenges yet it was rewarding.

They saved time from being less SOCIABLE and experienced some losses in their RISK-TAKING.

After one month, their pursuit of a high gain paid off.

One practice instigated was their Risky Business Slack Channel - they posted the risks they were individually considering and their comfort level. This gave the group an arena to support and socialize their risks.

There are wins and losses associated with these two STRENGTHS.

SOCIABLE is critical at the moment in an uncertain climate where loneliness and distance remove engagement.

Yet, SOCIABLE can be a distraction, disrupting workflow and be intrusive for those who prefer to work alone.

RISK-TAKING produces higher results given the chances taken and adds to the excitement of the often-mundane repetitive roles.

Yet, RISK-TAKING can cause discomfort for team members and feel unsafe if consequences aren’t considered.

What STRENGTHS (behaviours) do you only dabble in that could add value to your leadership?

You get to choose how you behave. And, you get to choose how you lead.

The strength of your leadership is your ability to adapt by using the right frequency of strengths in each relationship.
