Is Overwhelm Preventing Your Progress?

Overwhelm?

We’re into our 5th week of Spring down here in Melbourne Australia and we’ve just put our clocks forward 1 hour.

Do you know the saying, ‘SPRING FORWARD’? It’s what I love about Spring.

It’s time to move forward; whether it’s about changing up your leadership, decluttering some mess in your life or taking more control of your desired destination.

If you’re stuck, then maybe you’re experiencing Overwhelm and expecting too much of yourself.

Whilst in a workshop yesterday, we discussed the need to name what we’re really feeling. Rather than crying for help, it can be easier on yourself to pinpoint the actual emotion you’re experiencing and the behaviour causing this feeling. It’s a great emotional intelligence practice.

In the past week I’ve uncovered clients experience of overwhelm being associated with the need to:

·        Fight to be right – fighting themselves, feeling tired while unnecessarily using up their energy to be seen as right

·        Fit it all in – taking on too much to do with too little time with too little energy and feeling troubled

·        Fix it – thinking they need to fix everything, and everyone include their feelings

·        Focus on perfection – it will never be good enough for what’s expected of them and feeling nervous.

Just like experiencing Spring as a nose, throat and eye irritation, you need to have your overwhelm mitigation actions at hand.

My go-to is breathing (I know, we all breathe), breathing with purpose – calming myself down to enable my brain to be reengaged and reason with my actions.

To explore this further, pick up a copy of ‘Argh! Too much information, not enough brain’ by Lynne Cazaly, which is a practical guide to outsmarting overwhelm.

Regulating how you feel is in your control. By having activities to move out of this feeling of overwhelm is a mitigation action to address your desire to change in Spring.

If your Spring Transition has stalled in the past 5 weeks, then it’s time to connect and work with me in week 6. Let’s arrange a complimentary 1st meeting.
