Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary

Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary

She trail-blazed the 60s and 70s with fashion that made the English drop their teacups and the Australian’s drop their beers.

Thanks to Quant we welcomed the removal of corsets and introduced seamless underwear, movable dresses, and yes, the Mini that rocked the Melbourne Cup in 1965.

While visiting the Bendigo Art Gallery on the weekend to view 110 garments and accessories of Quants, I was struck when I read:

“Buying a dress at Bazaar (her store) is a new rite of passage for London’s fashionable elite, a British aristocratic custom such as ‘deb of the year’ and court presentations become outdated.’’

Sixty years on, my son’s school is hosting the school deb and he’s partnering with his girlfriend. For the past five years, I’ve pestered and petitioned the Principal and Parent’s committee to change and move with the times!

No luck yet however we’ve succeeded at our daughter’s school.

🚩What are you doing in your workplace that is outdated?

🚩What antiquated approach to working with people is out of touch?

🚩What’s your new fashion for how you and your organisation work?

🚩What’s your ‘Mini’ to revolutionise how you lead and work together?

Be a Mary Quant today, remove the corset and design a new movable way of working with your team.
