DO YOU SET THE PACE?

Do you set the pace?

Whilst out running this morning I realised we were running at a pace, faster than normal. I kept at this pace for a few kilometers and when I started to loose my stamina I slowed down and my running partner did the same. When we started our sprint intervals, I couldn't keep up; even for the 20 seconds that was required. However, when I took the one time lead, I broke the land record!

My personality follows me everywhere, even in the early hours. I set the pace, like to be slightly in front and I know as soon as I fall back my 'follower' ability struggles. Thankfully my partner slows down and yells words of encouragement and challenges me!

If you set the pace in your organisation/team, does everyone follow you? How conscious are you of your every move: action, communication, social media comment and behaviour?

To be successful at setting the pace, for example 'asking others for feedback' requires you to be effective at consistently providing feedback - positive and corrective - demonstrating the pace you expect others to follow.

Set the pace today and watch and listen - check who keeps up with you and those attempting to keep up - they may need some encouragement or maybe you need to change your pace to include them.

You're not out there to win a marathon rather your purpose is to get everyone over the finish line together, feeling good about them self and their contribution.
