LOU'S LEADERSHIP VIEWS: I can't hear you!

While I was out running this morning, I decided to listen to the radio as my daughter (six years old!) allowed me to use her iPod! The station option was one which I hadn't tuned into for many years.

Over the 80 minute time slot, the two lads regularly asked for people to call in or to text which is what my station generally does. However, I was surprised that only one person’s text was read out and no-one called into talk.

There are a few reasons why I think this was the case: school holidays, too early (6:45am) and it got me thinking …. Can your people (including clients/customers) hear you? Do they listen to the waves that you broadcast your messages on? Or, reverse that question, are you using the right mediums to connect with your ‘people’?

If you don’t know how to get people to stop and hear your message, then maybe start checking out what they might be doing and in particular, using.

In recent social media data analysis, Tumblr and Instagram have more than doubled in visits per month (unique Australian visit)  in a year and good old YouTube is maintaining 11 million visitors a month. For example use Instagram to share visuals about your business or ask them to respond with visuals to questions you pose about their business. Check this informative Instagram Blog.  

We all want to be heard and being mindful of the social media options allows us to be efficient and effective at tuning into our people.
