We’re almost into the ‘silly’ component of the Silly Season. Strangely enough, people do do silly things; no thinking and no considerations for their choices and the consequences.
I often wonder if people refer to the religious celebration of ‘Christmas’ as silly because they don’t themselves totally understand why it happens and why we even have these dedicated days away from the office.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this is not in any way a religious statement; what I am concerned about is that so many people follow along because that’s what the other person does. Whereas, Leaders are different: Leadership requires the making of decisions. Folk around you look towards someone to talk, demonstrate and even do things to show that a decision has been made. (O.K. according to the bible, that’s what Jesus chose to do!)
It’s tough making decisions. Some people, let’s say the Ten Percenters will follow you with your decisions, 80% will be influenced and the other ten precent will never change – so don’t worry about them. You have to have the guts (and hopefully some strategic know-how) to make decisions.
The question is, are you a decision maker or a follower? We do need both, but we do need good decision making. To confuse the matter, given its Fabulous Friday – watch this YouTube clip and decide who you are! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW8amMCVAJQ
